Heavy metals are very hazardous to human health. In the USA, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates cosmetics so that they safe for consumer use. However, internet shopping has made it easier non-FDA approved come into United States. People have reported serious health problems after using counterfeit purchased online. This project focuses on analyzing commercial hair dyes presence of As, Cu, Fe, Pb. Dyes were locally online, digested in aqua regia tested with a Shimadzu AA-7000 flame atomic absorption instrument. The concentrations Fe Pb below instrument detection limits 0.02, 0.06, 0.4 ppm respectively, amount As one sample was inconclusive due quality control failure. Overall, no significant amounts detected samples. work possible by NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium #80NSSC20M0055, Fairmont State University Chemistry Program.
